After Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a pretty simple procedure and you will get the best results if you take good care of your skin both before and after laser hair removal is completed. With the right skin care you can keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful.

So what happens after laser hair removal?

After the treatments your skin will feel soft and smooth as the laser has destroyed the hair follicles leaving behind no ingrown hairs or stubble. When the procedure is completed the skin around the treated hairs can appear a little red and swollen. You can compare it to a mild sunburn which dissapears after a couple of hours. In some cases it may take a couple of days for the skin to return to normal. Most peolpe can return to their normal activities right after the treatment. Most clinics will tell you to contact them if you experience any problems like blisters or crusting on the skin of the treated area.

Skin irritation or redness after laser hair removal

Some things that help if you experience any skin irritation or redness are:
An ice pack or a compress dipped in cold water.
Topical creams or gels used for easing skin irritation. It's common that the clinics provides them to their clients after treatment.
Moisturizing creams.
Antibacterial creams. (Not recommended for people with dry skin.)

Things to avoid after laser hair removal

You should avoid shaving the treated area in the first couple of days after laser hair removal but after that you can resume shaving as usual. Waxing, plucking and other similar things should be avoided completely during and after laser hair removal and thats probably why you are doing this in the first place right? To avoid those other ineffective and painful hair removal methods.

The first days after treatment you should just use a gentle cleanser on the treated part of the body and avoid any soaps that may make your skin dry. After a few days, you can expect the hair in the treated area to begin to shed, this is a normal part of the process. To help speed up the shedding process you can use a washcloth in the shower and you may even be able to pull out some loose hairs with your fingers. Avoid removing any hair that gives resistance as this means that the hair is still alive instead you should wait for them to come out after the next treatment. It is also recommended to avoid direct exposure to the sun after the procedure and you should use a sunscreen with high SPF.
